Frequently Asked Questions
Please look here for any questions you may have about all natural beef. Any additional questions may be answered by contacting Blake@Hillview-Farms.com or by telephone at 615.476.1149.
Q. Why All Natural and not organic?
A. To be organic certified there are rules to follow. All inputs must be organic. There are no organic proven cattle de-wormers available. Cattle eat off the ground and all cattle have worm infestations, we believe that the safest and healthiest cattle are one’s that have been de-wormed.
Q. Why can you sell All Natural Beef cheaper than the large grocery chains?
A. First you must understand the beef production cycle. There are six steps that an animal goes through to get to your plate. Cow/calf, stocker, feed lot and packing house, wholesaler and grocery store. Each step requires transportation and profit. We simply complete all six steps in one place, cut out all the profit in the middle and provide you with high quality, nutritious beef.
Q. Is Hillview Farms Meat USDA inspected?
A. Absolutely!
Q. When I buy a side of beef, what do I get?
A. A side of beef is one half of a slaughtered animal, this will typically weight between 200 and 300 pounds. Normally, one third is hamburger, one third is roast meat and one third is steak.
Q. How do you price your product?
A. We price our sides of beef by the hanging pound. Once the animal is slaughtered, it is cut into halves and weighed, that determines the weight you pay for. The actual pounds you receive will be slightly less due to the dry aging process.
Q. Do you Dry Age your All-Natural Beef?
A. Yes, for 21 days, we can age longer if you like for an additional charge.
Q. I see your beef is not 100% grass fed, why?
A. 100% grass fed beef is somewhat of an acquired taste, it has a wild game flavor to it. Strictly grass fed beef also cooks differently than most Americans are used to, it is exceptionally lean. This is not a bad thing, just different. We supplement our home grown corn for the last 90 days to produce a product that has better marbling, cooks well and has the taste and flavor most people are accustomed too, with all the health benefits of being All-Natural.
Q. Can you ship you beef?
A. Yes, we can ship anywhere in the continental US, for an additional shipping and handling charge.
Q. How do I receive my beef?
Your beef will be available for you at the processor, flash frozen. We can vacuum seal your order for an additional charge.
Q. Do you require a deposit?
Yes, a minimum $500 non-refundable deposit is required and will apply against your total bill. We have a limited supply of animals and therefore when you order, we remove that animal and begin the process.
Q. How big of a freezer will I need?
A. Usually a 15 cubic foot chest freezer will work fine.
Q. How long will a side of beef last?
A. Depends on the size of your family and your eating habits. Usually, for a family of four, a side of beef will last 6-9 months.
Q. Can you ship beef?
A. Yes, we ship UPS 48 hour guaranteed delivery to UPS shipping zones 2,3 and 4. For any shipments outside of those areas, please call to discuss shipping method and cost.
